Each project is different but the rates listed at the end of this section provide a guide. All projects will be discussed and specified through email and, if necessary, a free, one-hour phone consultation. After consultation, a work proposal will be drawn up along with a contract. Depending on the size of the assignment, 1/3 to 1/2 of the estimated charge will be due prior to any work being performed. Depending on the requirements of the project, estimates are subject to revision (with a potential revision to the corresponding upfront money due). Any balance due at the completion of the assignment will be invoiced and payable upon receipt unless arranged otherwise in advance.
Rates may vary depending on the nature of the work, the time frame of the assignment, the degree of special expertise required, and other factors. The industry standard for a manuscript page is 250 words. The following should serve as a rough guide:
Basic copyediting $40/hour
Heavy copyediting $50/hour
Website copyediting $50/hour
Substantive or line $60/hour
Manuscript Evaluation $55/hour
In addition to my writing background, I have professional experience in various areas of accounting, finance, corporate and individual tax, and strategic planning. Engagements that include financial modeling or otherwise heavily leverage my financial background may be subject to different rates, to be agreed in advance.
